Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 November 2026 · Effective immediately

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information matchin (“matchin”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, who helps us process it, how long we keep it, and your choices. Because we are a dating service that uses birth data, some information is treated as sensitive and given extra protection.

01Who we are & what this covers

matchin is currently operated by an individual developer under the name SAW (작은앱공방), who is the controller of your personal information for the matchin website and apps (the "Service"). Reach us at small.app.workshop@gmail.com. The Service is offered worldwide; regional sections in §09 describe your rights in the main markets where matchin is available.

02Information we collect

Account

Email address, password or sign-in provider (Google or Apple), and the date of birth you enter to confirm you are 18+.

Profile

Name, photos, gender, who you want to meet, prompts and bio.

Compatibility inputs

MBTI quiz answers, Love Language, and birth date/time for your Saju & Zodiac read.

Usage & device

Likes, matches, chats and message metadata, push-notification tokens, app/device identifiers, log and error data, approximate location.

We also collect support communications and your consent choices. We do not collect government ID — your age is self-declared — and we do not currently collect payment information; if we add paid features in future, we will update this Policy and disclose any payment processing before you are charged.

Sample profiles shown in Discover (labeled “Sample”) are fictional, use illustrated avatars, and are not based on any real person or on other members' data.

03Sensitive & special-category data

Your birth date and any sexual-orientation signals are treated as “sensitive” under US state privacy laws (and as special-category / sensitive information under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, and Korea’s PIPA). We process this data only with your explicit, separate consent, solely to generate your compatibility read and to suggest matches. You may withdraw this consent at any time, which will limit matching features.

04How we use your information

  • To create your compatibility read and rank potential matches.
  • To operate, secure, personalize, and improve the Service, including chat and push notifications.
  • For safety, enforcing our 18+ requirement based on your self-declared date of birth, fraud prevention, and content moderation.
  • To provide support and service messages, and — with your consent — marketing.
  • To comply with law and enforce our Terms.

05Our legal bases & consent

Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on your consent (including explicit consent for sensitive data and for marketing), performance of our contract with you (running your account, matching, and chat), our legitimate interests in running a safe and secure service (for example, preventing minors and abusive accounts from returning), and legal obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing.

06Service providers & how we share information

We use the following service providers (processors) to run matchin. They process your information on our behalf, under contract, and only as needed to provide their service:

Cloudflare

Hosting and delivery of the matchin website; cookieless page analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics).

Render

Hosting of the matchin API servers (Singapore region).

MongoDB Atlas

Database for profiles, chats, quiz results, and account records.

Neo4j AuraDB

Graph database for members, likes, and matches.

Upstash Redis

Caching, rate limiting, and daily usage limits.

Google Firebase

Sign-in (Authentication), profile-photo storage (Cloud Storage, Singapore region), and push notifications (Cloud Messaging).

Where enabled, we also use providers for error monitoring (Sentry), transactional email (Resend), website analytics (such as Google Analytics or Umami), and AI-generated compatibility insights (Anthropic or Google, which receive only compatibility traits such as MBTI type, Love Language, Saju and Zodiac signs, and — for icebreaker suggestions — a profile prompt answer; not names, contact details, or photos).

  • Other members — your profile, photos, and compatibility read are shown to people you may match with, and your messages to the people you chat with.
  • Safety & legal — to comply with law or protect users and the public.
  • Business transfers — if matchin is incorporated, merged, financed, or acquired, your information may transfer to the new operator under this Policy.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not "share" sensitive personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

07International data transfers

matchin is a global service, so your information is processed outside your own country. Our API servers and photo storage are in Singapore, and our providers may also process data in the United States and other countries where they operate. Where the law of your country requires it (for example, the GDPR or UK GDPR), we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum) included in our providers’ data-processing terms.

08Retention, deletion & security

  • We keep your information while your account is active.
  • When you delete your account (Settings > Delete account), we delete your profile, photos, matches, chats, quiz results, push subscriptions, and sign-in account. Copies may remain in provider backups and logs for a short period before they are overwritten.
  • If an account is rejected because the date of birth shows the person is under 18, we keep only a one-way hashed (salted SHA-256) record of the account’s email address and sign-in ID, with the reason and date — no name, birth date, photos, or profile. Its only purpose is child safety: preventing the same person from re-registering as a minor. We keep it for as long as it is needed for that purpose.
  • We may keep limited records longer where the law requires it or to handle safety reports, disputes, or legal claims.

We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and monitoring, and will notify you and regulators of qualifying breaches as required by law.

09Your rights by region

Wherever you live, you can access and download your data (Settings > Data export), correct your profile, and delete your account (Settings > Delete account) in the app, or email small.app.workshop@gmail.com. We may need to confirm it is you before acting on a request, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

United States

Depending on your state, you may also have the right to opt out of sale/sharing, to limit the use of sensitive personal information, and to appeal our decision on a request. We honor Global Privacy Control signals.

EEA / UK / Switzerland

You also have rights to data portability, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, to restrict processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your local data-protection supervisory authority. We respond within one month. We will appoint an EU/UK representative and a data-protection officer where the law requires it.

South Korea

You can request access, correction, deletion, suspension of processing, and withdrawal of consent under PIPA; we will appoint a domestic representative in Korea where required. The Korean version of this Policy contains additional Korea-specific disclosures.

10Children

matchin is strictly for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If the date of birth entered shows someone is under 18, we block the account; if we learn that a minor has an account, we delete it and its data, keeping only the hashed record described in §08.

11Cookies & changes

We use cookies as described in our Cookie Policy. We may update this Policy; we will post the new date and, for material changes, notify you in-app or by email.
